Regional air connectivity will take center stage at the Caribbean’s leading tourism policy conference after the Caribbean Tourism Organization named interCaribbean Airways the official airline partner for the 2026 State of the Tourism Industry Conference.
The conference, scheduled for October 5–9 in Georgetown, Guyana, will bring together tourism ministers, destination leaders, aviation executives, private-sector operators, media and youth representatives under the theme “Tourism Futures: Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive.”
Under the partnership, interCaribbean Airways will provide a 25 percent flight discount for registered delegates and CTO members traveling to the event. The arrangement is intended to broaden regional participation and make it easier for decision-makers from different islands to meet in one location.
Connectivity Remains a Regional Priority
The partnership is more than a conference promotion. It draws attention to one of Caribbean tourism’s most persistent challenges: moving people efficiently and affordably between neighboring countries.
The Caribbean has strong air links to major cities in North America and Europe, yet travel between islands can involve limited schedules, high fares or connections through airports outside the region. Those obstacles affect residents, business travelers, event organizers and visitors who want to combine several destinations in one trip.
Improved regional connectivity could strengthen multi-destination tourism, distribute visitor spending more widely and create new opportunities for smaller islands. It can also make regional conferences and cultural events more accessible to Caribbean participants.
Guyana’s Expanding Tourism Role
Guyana will host the State of the Tourism Industry Conference for the first time. The selection reflects the country’s rising profile as a nature, adventure, heritage and business destination.
Unlike the traditional beach-centered image of Caribbean tourism, Guyana offers rainforest experiences, river journeys, wildlife encounters, Indigenous community tourism and a growing urban business market in Georgetown. Hosting SOTIC provides an opportunity to showcase that diversity to regional and international tourism leaders.
The conference theme also aligns with the country’s potential to demonstrate how tourism can grow alongside environmental stewardship and community participation.
From Conference Debate to Practical Solutions
SOTIC is expected to examine technology, sustainability, inclusion, aviation, investment, workforce development and the changing expectations of travelers. The regional airline partnership gives those discussions a practical foundation.
Caribbean tourism cannot become fully inclusive if professionals, entrepreneurs and communities struggle to connect across the region. Nor can multi-island travel reach its potential without dependable schedules, competitive fares and cooperation among airlines, airports, governments and tourism authorities.
The conference discount is a limited initiative, but it demonstrates what targeted collaboration can accomplish. Similar partnerships around festivals, sporting events, business meetings and cultural programmes could help stimulate demand for regional routes throughout the year.
A Smarter Regional Network
The long-term goal should be a Caribbean travel network that works for both visitors and residents. That will require better data sharing, coordinated scheduling, modern airport systems and policies that reduce unnecessary friction.
By placing air access directly within the region’s most important tourism conversation, the CTO and interCaribbean Airways are highlighting a central truth: Caribbean destinations may compete for visitors, but they also depend on one another.
If the conference produces practical commitments on connectivity, SOTIC 2026 could help move regional tourism from shared ambition toward a more connected and resilient future.
