NEGRIL, Jamaica, July 27, 2026 — As Liquid Sunshine fell over Negril, an even greater outpouring of love unfolded inside Sador’s Ethiopian Restaurant at Bamboo Walk. There, internationally acclaimed spoken word artist, author and life coach Sunday Jones proved that not even the weather could diminish the healing power of words delivered through the Ink. Breath & Bars: Pain 2 Power experience.
The inspiring evening followed a spectacular reception at Kingston Night Market and a special tribute visit to Haile Selassie High School in observance of the birthday of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I on Thursday July 23rd. Returning to western Jamaica, Sunday Jones continued her Jamaica tour of empowerment with a moving performance that transformed personal stories of pain into messages of courage, resilience and hope.
Part performance, part testimony and part healing encounter, Ink. Breath & Bars: Pain 2 Power invited participants into an immersive exploration of the human spirit, demonstrating that while pain may shape our journey, it does not determine our destiny.
Among those visibly moved by the presentation was veteran tour operator Lambert Williams, who quietly shifted his seat closer to absorb every moment. Sunday’s word sounds settled gently upon the audience like healing rain, awakening memories, stirring emotions and revealing experiences many had long forgotten. What began as an evening of spoken word evolved into a shared journey of healing and self-discovery.
One of the programme’s most poignant moments unfolded through a dramatic role-play portraying a telephone conversation between a young Sunday and her incarcerated mother. Sunday Jones assumed the role of her mother, while Sunday Frierson portrayed Sunday as a 13-year-old girl longing for her mother’s return.
With the innocence and desperation of a child who did not want the conversation to end, Sunday Frierson pleaded,
“Don’t go yet… What’s your favourite colour?”
Then, as children often do, she called out, “Big Brother Marty!” before handing him the phone. Marty, portraying Sunday Jones’ father, travelled to Jamaica with his wife, Ezzy, to experience the Jamaica leg of the Ink. Breath & Bars: Pain 2 Power tour.
The simple exchange captured the ache of separation while celebrating the enduring strength of family love. It was a moment that left many in the audience visibly moved, reminding them that even life’s deepest wounds can become the foundation for healing and hope.
The evening unfolded in two carefully crafted acts. Sunday first established an intimate rapport with the audience through her welcoming refrain, “Hey, Dopeness,” before guiding them through a compelling blend of poetry, storytelling, spoken word, humour and dramatic performance. After a brief intermission that allowed patrons to enjoy the hospitality of Sador’s Ethiopian Restaurant, she returned with an even deeper invitation to confront life’s wounds, reclaim personal power and embrace a future defined not by circumstances but by possibility.
Throughout the evening, Sunday’s message rang clear: pain may still exist, but it does not define us. We are not prisoners of our past—we are creators of our future. The philosophy echoes throughout her acclaimed book, The Art of Rising: A Love Letter to My Becoming, where she invites readers to embrace healing through courage, compassion and intentional living.
The Jamaica tour continues on Sunday, July 26, with a Healing Experience by the Water at Point Village Resort, where Sunday Jones will be joined by Tassili Ma’at, Yogini, for an afternoon of yoga, meditation and sacred restoration overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
On Monday, July 27, Sunday will continue her community outreach with a visit to St. Anthony’s Soup Kitchen in Negril, followed by a visit to Elaine Allen-Bradley’s Pediatric Orthotics Clinic, whose work restores mobility and hope by providing corrective orthotic care for children living with clubfoot, cerebral palsy, spina bifida and other physical challenges.
Before returning to Atlanta on August 2, Sunday Jones will spend time with family, supporters and her Jamaica team in the Capital of Casual, reflecting on a tour that has demonstrated that spoken word is more than performance—it is a pathway to healing, transformation and hope.
