We are honoured to announce the memorial candlelight vigil for the late Dr. Jessica Thembela Mbangeni, scheduled to take place this coming Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 34 Camp Road, Kingston. The memorial candlelight vigil to celebrate her life and times as well as her contribution to the Jamaican culture will commence at 6:00 p.m. Sharp.
We will request of you, a dress code of traditional African wear during this time of remembrance and celebration as a bond of fellowship with Jessica, her family and friends. This is a reminder of Jessica’s deep commitment to her culture and heritage.
Reflecting on the statement of the Mbangeni family: “Jessica was more than just a world celebrated praise singer and a musical maestro, she was a cultural cornerstone, a beacon of hope, and an unstoppable force for artistic expression and advocacy.”
Dr Jessica Mbangeni, is remembered as a proud Cultural Ambassador whose courageous travel ‘around the world and seven seas’, as she would say, landed her in Jamaica to meet the progeny of our Liberators. She visited our national Heroes Circle and come face to face with the statues of Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Sam Sharpe, Paul Bogle and Bob Marley at the Bob Marley Museum and Nanny of the Maroons at her bump gravesite, whom she honored with praise poetry and libations. On this spiritual journey she found her true self, made atonement to the spirit of the enslaved, walked in the footsteps of giants and became whole. This bond of friendship with Jamaicans we hold dear and treasure forever.
In the enduring spirit of the Mbangeni family who celebrated Jessica’s life and legacy on September 6th in South Africa, join us in Jamaica as we come together to celebrate the incredible life of a Cultural Icon, Dr. Jessica Mbangeni. She was a global woman who has carried the flag of South Africa and Jamaica to world acclaim. Let us share in the memories, stories and music that she leaves behind, and pay tribute to a woman, a Sacred Feminine, who touched so many lives the worldwide.
