Lucea, Hanover, Jamaica, W.I. August 24, 2023.
At long last, the Hanover Chamber of Commerce has resurfaced from its hibernation.
Professional members of the Lucea, Green Island, Hopewell and other communities are coming together to create the “New Hanover” they want to see.
It is as if a new leaf has been turned with all the changes taking place globally, members are com24g in looking for something different. One member said he did not want to hear a lot of talk, he is ready for action.
This attempt at resuscitation of the Hanover Chamber will work because as Mr. Kingsley Campbell indicated, “you the youth are the ones we are preparing to take over. You must make it work.”
With that clear youth mandate, the Hanover Chamber of Commerce is seeking new youthful members, whether it be scholars, entrepreneurs or professionals.
The key feature of the search for members and invitation to membership is responsible, committed, and professional attitude and workmanship. Ability to work as a team and achieve results for the betterment of the people of Hanover.
Recently a new steering committee chaired by interim Chairperson and business woman Shermaine Anderson-Gayle, has been installed through the fastidious work of Mrs Gloria Spence (Owner of Global Villa); Mr. Theo Chambers (Past President of Hanover Chamber of Commerce), Mr. Alfred Graham (Accountant, Past President of The Rotary Club of Lucea), Ms. Joan Christie (Retired Businesswoman) and Mrs. Sharon Parris-Chambers (Former Ambassador and now newly-appointed Tourism Minister for the State of the African Diaspora, Sixth Region). These businesspersons hold a strong commitment to the Parish of Hanover and have written a Statement of Intent as proof.
A quote from the Statement of Intent which re-ignited the Hanover Chamber of Commerce reads as follows: “The absence of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce over the years has left Hanover bereft of sustainable progress, lacking in new and creative businesses and recognition for good citizenship. Having some of the most recognizable hotels, Hanover still has not yet fully reaped the benefit of becoming known as a Tourist Resort. It seems to be “Handing-Over" most of its precious resources and getting very little in return. How do we change this paradigm?... Taking a reference from the 80:20 Pareto Rule, we will identify the 20% who are seeking change and progress for Hanover and Western Jamaica. We will come together with one voice, working hand-in-hand with vision, confidence, truth and honesty, and certainly victory will be assured. Aluta continua, victora es certa.”
Ongoing weekly meetings commencing at 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. are taking place at Global Villa Hotel on the A1 Main Road in Esher, Hanover. Meetings are convened by Shermaine Anderson-Gayle, Interim Chairperson. Ms Anderson-Gayle is the Proprietor of Seafront Enterprise in Green Island. She thrives on community development. Hence the reason she inquired about the Hanover Chamber of Commerce and was informed about the reignition, the refocus and the drive of like-minded individuals with whom she has aligned herself.
